Planning a Bathroom Renovation: What to Expect from Start to Finish

A bathroom renovation can completely change how a room feels, whether you're replacing an ageing suite, reworking the layout, or fitting a fully tiled shower room. Knowing what to expect from start to finish makes it much easier to plan ahead.

Step 1: Design Consultation and Survey

Every bathroom project starts with a visit to your home. We measure the space, talk through your priorities — more storage, a better shower, a full reconfiguration, or simply an updated look — and check the existing plumbing and electrics so we can flag anything that needs attention before work begins.

Step 2: Choosing Your Suite and Fixtures

Once we've agreed the scope, we help you choose your suite, tiling, flooring, and any extras such as heated towel rails, shower enclosures, or vanity units, working with trusted suppliers across a range of price points.

Step 3: Stripping Out the Old Bathroom

Fitting day starts with removing the existing suite, tiling, and any flooring being replaced — usually one to two days depending on size and complexity.

Step 4: First Fix (Plumbing and Electrics)

With the room stripped back, any plumbing changes and electrical work — repositioning the soil pipe, moving radiator connections, adding an extractor fan circuit — are carried out before walls and floor go in.

Step 5: Tiling and Flooring

Wall tiling and flooring are completed once first fix is signed off. This is where the room starts to take shape, with careful attention to grout lines and levels for a professional finish.

Step 6: Second Fix and Commissioning

The suite, shower enclosure, and all fixtures are installed and connected. We check all plumbing and electrics, test the shower and any thermostatic valves, and make sure everything is sealed and watertight before we leave.

Step 7: Final Clean and Handover

We leave the bathroom clean and ready to use and walk you through everything installed. Most bathroom projects run three to seven working days from strip-out to handover, depending on scope.

Typical Cost

A typical full bathroom installation with us costs between £5,000 and £10,000, mainly depending on the size of the space and the furniture and fittings you choose. As with kitchens, a 50% deposit secures your fit date and materials, 30% is due on delivery, and the balance is due on completion.

Aftercare

We book a follow-up visit three to six months after your bathroom is finished, and you're welcome to call any time in between if something needs attention.

If you're thinking about a bathroom renovation, get in touch for a free, no-obligation consultation — we cover Essex, Hertfordshire, and the outskirts of London.
